Donruss Classics update
June 29, 2006

Officials at Donruss Playoff have announced Donruss Classics Football has been moved up in the calendar, shipping now on June 28th and releasing July 7th.

A six-year veteran to the hobby, the dynasty Classics has built continues to roll when it comes to retired-focused launches. This year is no exception, offering autograph and memorabilia cards of over 100 retired players. Many of these players will be making their debut when it comes to the modern era of cardboard.

"Donruss Classics has established itself as the top retired-player program in the industry," said Donruss Playoff Football Brand Manager Ben Ecklar. "We have spent a tremendous amount of time and effort over the years building this brand and locating authentic game-used memorabilia from players dating back to Jim Thorpe and the Canton Bulldogs. Each year Classics has unparalleled designs and unique photography, making it one of the hottest brands - year in and year out."

Highlights from the program include:

  • The first ever game-used memorabilia cards of Hall of Famers Earl "Dutch" Clark and Clyde “Bulldog” Turner. A game-used helmet of Dutch Clark and a game-used jersey from Bulldog Turner was acquired. Clark will be paired with Hall of Famer Doak Walker in Classic Combos while Turner will appear with Bears legends, Dick Butkus and Mike Singletary, in Classic Triples.

  • Timeless Triples – The inaugural Hall of Fame Class of 1963 will be represented as Jim Thorpe, Earl "Dutch" Clark and Red Grange will be appearing for the first time on a game-used memorabilia card.
  • Pigskin Classics - Bart Starr’s card will feature a swatch of a game-used football from Super Bowl I.
  • Significant Signatures - The first certified autographs of legends Paul Lowe, Clem Daniels, and Ken Kavanaugh
  • Legendary Players - 30 cards set that will contain single swatch cards of Clark and Turner, as well as Bobby Layne, Yale Lary, Daryle Lamonica, Don Meredith and Johnny Unitas.
  • The return of Classic Singles, Combos, Triples and Quads, with up to four swatches of game-used material on them.
  • Cards of Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart, Vince Young and many of the rookies from this year's draft will be in their NFL uniforms.

“Donruss Classics continues the tradition of building strong brands the hobby has seen already with Prestige and Elite,” said Ecklar. “Delivering value is our goal for every product we produce and we’re confident the rest of our product calendar will live up to these expectations.”

Each 18-pack box will include at least one autograph and two memorabilia cards per box on average. SRP is $6.00 per pack.
