Due to the overwhelming success of Playoff Prestige football, officials at Donruss Playoff announced that the release date of Donruss Elite football has been moved up two weeks to June 8th. This announcement comes at the same time Donruss Playoff confirmed that the year’s first product with fully licensed rookie cards, Playoff Prestige, is completely sold out from the company.
"This year has been like no other and the build-up was unprecedented," said Donruss Playoff Vice President Mike Anderson. "It's exciting to see anticipation turn to reality for the football trading card category. Playoff Prestige is at a collector friendly price point and with one rookie card in every pack, the excitement over this draft class is making Prestige fly off hobby and retail shelves."
Donruss Elite will release this year’s first fully licensed serial-numbered rookie cards, with a total of 125 rookie cards being numbered to 599. Elite will also contain the first game-used material cards of rookies Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush, in the insert College Ties. Donruss Playoff purchased actual USC game-used jerseys from the only two Heisman winners to play on the same field after taking home the prestigious prize. Elite will also offer the first material card of Heisman winner Joe Bellino. Donruss/Playoff will pair Bellino, winner of the 1960 award, with fellow Navy Heisman winner Roger Staubach, who won in 1963. The cards will feature swatches of their college jerseys.
